Palestinians in Gaza are suffering one of the worst humanitarian crises of our times.
Yet at the heart of Gaza there exists some relief amidst the chaos: the MA’AN Development Centre offering aid, comfort, and resilience in the face of adversity to the Palestinian people.
Australia’s Union Aid Abroad APHEDA, founded by nurse and ANF member Helen McCue, supports the MA’AN Development Centre and through its recent efforts raised $600k for direct aid to the organisation.
Reporting on where the funds are being spent, MA’AN, highlighted their emergency relief activities which have provided a lifeline to thousands of affected families.
These activities include immediate relief in the form of cash assistance and vouchers as well as distribution of hygiene kits and dignity kits, ensuring that even in the midst of crisis, every person is treated with respect and compassion. And for those who have been displaced from their homes, MA’AN has provided hot meals and essential non-food items such as winterized tents, bedding sets, and blankets, offering a semblance of comfort amidst the harsh realities of displacement.
MA’AN’s work also recognises the mental and psychological needs of the people by providing recreational activities and games, and safe spaces for children to heal from the traumas of war, while also offering support interventions to caregivers who bear the weight of responsibility in these trying times.
The challenges faced by MA’AN are immense, with Gaza enduring 16 years of oppressive blockade. Recent attacks by the Israeli military have left MA’AN’s Gaza offices in ruins, and tragically, one of their employees lost their life.
Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA is inviting everyone to join in expressing solidarity and gratitude to MA’AN and their staff for their tireless efforts in the face of adversity. Your words of thanks and encouragement serve as a pillar of strength in these challenging times, reminding them that they are not alone in their quest for peace in Gaza.
Together, we can stand with MA’AN Development Centre and the people of Gaza, offering support, and solidarity in their time of need.
