Researchers from the University of South Australia, the University of Sydney, Monash University and the University of New South Wales in partnership with the James Lind Alliance want to hear from nurses (as well as other healthcare professionals and healthcare workers and consumers) about what they think are the most important questions about medicine use in people living with dementia.
In the past, health research questions have been led by drug companies or researchers, with little involvement of clinicians and consumers. We aim to determine which questions are important to people living with dementia and their care team, to prioritise research in these areas and ensure that outcomes of research are directly relevant to the care of people living with dementia. This will lead to improving how medicines are used which in turn will improve health outcomes in people living with dementia.
This survey builds on the one we did last year. In 2020, we asked people to tell us their questions and concerns about medicines use in people living with dementia. We received potential research questions from over 230 people across Australia. We were pleased that about 40% of the responses we received from healthcare professionals were from nurses!
We now need to know which of the questions should be prioritised for future research.
We would like to hear from:
- People living with dementia
- Carers, family members and friends of a person living with dementia
- Healthcare professionals (including students) and/or staff members of healthcare organisations (including healthcare workers) who have any experience providing or facilitating care for people with dementia.
Participation in this study will involve filling in an anonymous questionnaire. It will take you about 5-10 minutes. To be eligible for this study you need to be at least 18 years old and Australian OR living and/or working in Australia.

I am a retired nurse but had lots of experience with working with and staffing for elderly persons with dementia. I would be happy to do a survy
That would be great Barbara! Here is the direct link to complete the survey: https://research.unisa.edu.au/redcap/surveys/?s=Y7X9KLLH7K
