The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) is hosting a webinar to help registered nurses and employers learn more about the introduction of designated registered nurse prescribing in Australia.
The NMBA’s Registration standard: Endorsement for scheduled medicines – designated registered nurse prescriber took effect on 30 September 2025. RNs with the endorsement will be qualified to administer, obtain, possess, prescribe, supply and/or use Schedule 2, 3, 4, and 8 medicines in partnership with authorised health practitioners, such as an NP, under a clinical governance framework and an active prescribing agreement.
With the first cohort of registered nurses currently studying accredited education programs leading to endorsement for designated registered nurse prescribing, the NMBA is encouraging RNs and employers to join the webinar to learn more about:
- The prescribing model, requirements of the registration standard and guidelines, and pathways to endorsement
- How the NMBA and Ahpra are supporting designated registered nurse prescribers to prescribe safely and effectively, and
- An overview of approved programs of study, implementation activities, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, Real Time Prescription Monitoring and jurisdictional updates.
There will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions at the end of the presentation and the webinar will be recorded.
