New infusion rate calculator launches in Australian Injectable Drugs Handbook

Share on:

The 10th edition of the Australian Injectable Drugs Handbook (AIDH10) introduces a redesigned digital app featuring a new Infusion Rate Calculator, developed to support safer, faster clinical decision‑making at the point of care.

The tool is designed to reduce the need for multi‑step calculations, offering clinicians immediate guidance when preparing and administering injectable medicines.

The updated app includes extensively reviewed content on more than 500 injectable drugs, with 29 new medicines added for the latest edition.

Pharmacists and nurses working with Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) have developed and reviewed AIDH10’s content, with a focus on creating a more intuitive, user‑friendly experience.

Key clinical updates in AIDH10 include:

  • Updated ambulatory antimicrobial therapy guidance, reflecting current best practice.
  • New guidance on the preparation and administration of the first antimicrobial dose for adults with sepsis.
  • New guidance on potassium chloride premixed infusion bags, including safe selection and administration.
  • Expanded compatibility information to support safer infusion management.

The AIDH10 app will be available on both web and mobile platforms, with an offline mode enabling clinicians to access essential information wherever care is delivered.

This edition marks the first published under a new partnership between AdPha and Therapeutic Guidelines Limited, with AIDH10 to be hosted on the Therapeutic Guidelines platform from 1 July.

Health professionals can register their interest or learn more via the Therapeutic Guidelines website.
