ANMF Federal Office Statement on ANMJ article – apology

This article did not express the views of the ANMF, but as the publisher of the ANMJ, it is our responsibility to ensure that damaging and harmful opinions are not disseminated or appear to be promoted in our publications.

The ANMF apologises for the publication of this article and has and will take several actions to attempt to remedy our mistake including reviewing and improving our editorial processes and ways of consulting and engaging with gender and sexually diverse people.

The ANMF acknowledges that publication of this opinion piece has caused immediate and significant distress to the transgender community, the LGBTQIA+ community, and the wider community. We sincerely regret the harm this has caused and deeply apologise for this.

The article has been removed from the ANMF’s online publications and from downloadable PDF formats. Many ANMF members, however, will have already received or will receive a physical copy of the ANMJ in their letterboxes in the coming days.

It is a priority of the ANMF that we are supportive and compassionate to all members of our community and that we do not discriminate or create an unsafe environment for those seeking support.

The ANMF is committed to continue working with LGBTQIA+ members via the ANMF’s Branches to ensure appropriate consultation and input is sought on matters that directly affect them.

It has never been a more important time to stand with and advocate for this community. Negativity and hatred have no place in our movement.
