The Nurse Midwife Health Program Australia (Nurse Midwife HPA) has announced expansion of its services with the launch of state hubs and regional offices across Australia.
The specialist peer support counselling service for nurses, midwives and students of the professions launched in April 2024, providing confidential free support via telehealth counselling.
Nurse Midwife HPA has now expanded to also deliver its services face to face. Offices are centrally located in all states and territories throughout Australia, except Victoria.
The next step for the program will enable in-person appointments for Nurse Midwife HPA participants, said Heather Pickard, Nurse Midwife HPA CEO. “This expansion marks a significant milestone in our mission to support the health and wellbeing of nurses, midwives and our students.
“With state hubs and regional offices now operational, nurses, midwives, and our students have easier access to vital support, ensuring they are not alone in navigating the pressures of our profession and everyday life.”
The state hubs and regional offices will provide face-to-face peer support and counselling, complementing the existing telehealth service, which will continue to support nurses, midwives, and students of the professions across Australia.
Local presence to reduce isolation
“We’re excited to bring this program closer to the communities we serve. By establishing a local presence, we aim to reduce the isolation many nurses, midwives and students feel and offer them the support they need at a time when the demands on the profession are continuously increasing,” said Ms Pickard.
Each state hub and regional office offers free, confidential peer support and counselling by trained peers who understand the unique challenges faced by the industry.
“Whether it’s navigating burnout, moral distress, or personal mental health challenges, Nurse Midwife HPA is here to support you,” said Ms Pickard.
