Nurse and midwife registration renewal closes at the end of May

Before you renew, you must set up your new Ahpra portal, introduced earlier this year, which includes multifactor authentication to protect your personal data and a range of features such as streamlined forms and a personalised dashboard.

Click here for a step-by-step guide and video tutorial on how to set up your Ahpra portal.

You can check your current registration details and expiry date on the national register here.

What information is required?

You must declare that you meet the NMBA’s registration standards including:

  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Recency of practice (Nurses and midwives must complete a minimum of 450 hours of practice in the preceding five years)
  • Continual professional development (CPD)
  • Criminal history
  • A health impairment relevant to practice

How much does registration renewal cost?

The national general registration renewal fee for 2025-26 costs $185. If you do not renew by 31 May you will incur a late payment fee, and if you don’t renew by 1 July, your registration will lapse and name be removed from the national register. Find out more about registration renewal here
