Launched at the beginning of the year, the Albanese Government election committment provides immediate support for non-emergency health concerns, including health informaiton and advice and referral to other services such as GPs, hospitals, or Medicare Urgent Care clinics.

If urgent GP care is required, triage nurses can connect Australians to a free telehealth session with a 1800MEDICARE GP via phone or video.

The government believes around 250,000 Australians will avoid an unnecessary trip to hospital emergency departmenbt each year, because of the health advice and services provided by 1800MEDICARE. This includes up to 130,000 free urgent telehealth GP services each year by the end of the decade.
