The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has extended its deepest condolences to the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) and the entire Australian nursing community following the tragic mass shooting at Bondi Beach.

In a letter to the ANMF, signed by ICN President Dr Jose Luis Cobos Serrano, and CEO Howard Catton, the federation of over 140 national nurses associations (NNAs), representing over 30 million nurses worldwide, extended its “heartfelt sympathy, unyielding support, and the collective hope that healing and unity will emerge from this tragedy”.

“Across hospitals, ambulances, and triage centres, nursing staff have been at the forefront delivering urgent care to those severely wounded, supporting families devastated by sudden loss, and offering calm reassurance in the midst of chaos. Your unwavering compassion, swift clinical care, and emotional support in such dire times stand as a true testament to the heart of nursing.

“In the face of terror and division, your steadfast service embodies the very principles that unite our profession: empathy, courage, and solidarity. The International Council of Nurses stands with you, mourning with the families who have lost loved ones, paying tribute to the resilience of survivors, and honouring every nurse tirelessly working to save lives and comfort the wounded. We extend to you our heartfelt sympathy, unyielding support, and the collective hope that healing and unity will emerge from this tragedy.”
