Grad Spotlight – Jorja

1    What inspired you to pursue a career in nursing?

I was inspired by the nurses I met before starting my own journey – they completely starstruck me. I saw how caring, smart, and compassionate they were, and I just knew I wanted to be like them. They made such a difference in people’s lives, and I felt drawn to that. I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything differently now.

2    How does your first year as a grad compare to what you expected?

It’s been so much fun! It’s honestly flown by. I expected it to be a big learning curve (and it has been), but I didn’t anticipate how rewarding and fast-paced it would feel day-to-day.

3    What’s been your most memorable moment?

There hasn’t been one big standout moment, but it’s the little things – like knowing I’m making a difference, learning from my team, and building confidence – that stick with me the most.

4    What’s been the biggest challenge?

Definitely learning to ask for help. At first, I felt like I had to handle everything myself, but I’ve realised how important it is to lean on your team and take care of your own wellbeing too.

5    What’s your go-to snack for staying energised on a busy shift?

Yoghurt! Quick, easy, and gives me the boost I need when things get hectic.

6    How do you unwind after a long day at work?

Self-care is everything for me – whether that’s a skincare routine, a warm shower, or reading a book. Looking after myself always leaves me feeling refreshed.

7    What advice would you give to nursing students or those about to graduate?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. You’re not expected to know everything straight away. Be kind to yourself, trust your co-workers, and celebrate the small wins!
