An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Grade 4 Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join Broadmeadows Adult Inpatient Unit at Northern Health.

The Role: Team Leader – Broadmeadows Adult Inpatient Unit (BIPU)

The BIPU Team Leader position is responsible (but is not limited to) demonstrating:

  • Actively leading the clinical nursing input into service delivery whilst collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to co-ordinate clinical quality and risk, service performance and care standards within the Inpatient Unit.
  • When required to ‘Act-up’ into the BIPU Inpatient Manager’s role
  • Maintaining the roster portfolio and co-ordination and staff rostering including pay-lock.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic documentation and records of progress of consumers, interventions and services provided to consumers, their families/carers. (incl CRAAM; Sexual Safety Assessment)
  • Provides mentorship and positive role modelling to staff through the maintenance of high standards of professional ethics and clinical competence.
  • Support the ANUM and Discharge Coordinator in bed access and coordination for BIPU and ensure consistent bed-flow management.
  • provision of supervision to staff as well as students within the relevant discipline, actively participating in the Nursing support model
  • Provides clinical support to the Lived Experience Workforce (Consumer & Carer Peer Support Workers)

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Registration as a registered nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Bachelor Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent, or, Bachelor Degree in Nursing plus a Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.
  • Minimum five (5) years of post-registration experience working in variety of public acute mental health settings
  • Demonstrated significant problem-solving skills that may require considerable understanding and interpretation of facility and departmental policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide expert clinical consultancy and dissemination of key messages across a range of key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership within mental health with proven ability to mentor and develop the mental health nursing workforce within a coaching framework.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the recovery approach in mental health treatment and support, with a focus on working collaboratively with consumers and carers to promote self-determination and enable progress towards reaching consumers personal recovery goals.
