Being a member of the RMH RUSON Workforce, you will work within a specialist area at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Successful applicants will work as an assistant to the health care team, assisting Registered Nurses to provide delegated aspects of patient care that will prove useful in furthering your nursing career. With extensive opportunities and further education and mentoring, you will feel supported to meet clinical standards and expectations at one of the busiest hospitals in Australia.

The RUSON is required to work under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and/or a Registered Nurse delegate at all times, within their level of education, assessed competencies and also under clearly defined role duties list parameters.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Current enrolment in a Bachelor of Nursing program or equivalent (i.e. Master of Nursing) with demonstrated satisfactory completion of no less than 12 months of the Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent (credit or above for all subjects)
  • Student registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
  • Commitment to live the Melbourne Way – putting people first, leading with kindness and achieving excellence together
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and influenza
  • Demonstrated ability to practice collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team
  • Have completed at least one clinical placement
  • Be able to provide a transcript showing successful completion of the first-year of the qualification in which you are enrolled
  • Ability to work AM/PM/ND shifts across a 7-day rotating roster (around clinical placements)
  • Must be available to work between 2 – 4 shifts per fortnight
