About the facility

Barwon health is the major regional health provider for the Barwon South West region. It is Victoria’s largest regional health service with one of the busiest hospitals in the state, University Hospital. About Ward location  

Birdsey Wing 7 – Rapid Assessment and Planning Unit (RAPU), Medical Unit

The Rapid Assessment and Planning Unit (RAPU) is a 16–18 bed short-stay Medical Unit for patients from the Emergency Department that need a short admission and will benefit from intensive, routine allied health input. A multidisciplinary team approach is used to develop a plan of care for a safe and effective discharge from hospital within 48 hours to 76 hours

About the role 

We are excited to offer a leadership opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced registered nurse to lead the development of a new 16 bed combined general medical and gastroenterology ward.  The role of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is to co-ordinate and manage the day to day operations of the ward encompassing strategic planning of financial, capital, human and physical resources.  The NUM will act as a role model, providing leadership and practice within the core values of Barwon Health.  Overall the NUM will form an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team and will be required to ensure highly responsive and flexible service to internal and external health care providers.  The position is full time and ongoing.
