After making the move to South Australia from the United Kingdom in 2008, Kristian Sanchez has moved mountains in his career with SA Health, bolstering himself in his current leadership role as Advanced Nursing Director for the COVID-19 Response Care Team.

Kristian has now been working with SA Health for 14 years and has held multiple positions during this time, from Registered Nurse to Nursing Director.

“I have enjoyed the vast number of roles and opportunities that I have had while working for SA Health, most recently I have had the privilege of working in South Australia’s response to COVID-19, both in the Medi-hotel quarantine facilities and the community.”

In what was a challenging year for the entire world as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, Kristian won SA Health’s 2020 Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Award for Excellence in Leadership in his then role as the Advanced Nurse Unit Manager for one of South Australia’s COVID-19 Medi-hotel quarantine facilities. Not only has Kristian forged an award-winning career at SA Health, he has made friends for life.

“I love the connections I have made during this time with my colleagues, some who have become very close friends, which is essential when migrating from overseas,” Kristian says of the comradery in his career at SA Health.

Kristian has truly embraced South Australia as his home and soaks up all that South Australia has to offer in his downtime.

“I love living in South Australia, especially the beaches, Australian sporting culture and being close to so many great regions.”

The idyllic Clare and McLaren Vale wine regions are two of his favourites. He also acknowledges Kangaroo island as another place in South Australia that is wonderful to visit with stunning scenery.

Being the sport lover that he is, Kristian’s favourite place in South Australia is the iconic Adelaide Oval where international and national sporting events are held in the heart of the third most liveable city in the world. “It is just a spectacular venue to watch football and cricket,” says Kristian.

Kristian hasn’t looked back after making the move to South Australia, and SA Health are so thrilled to have his leadership and expertise among our team of fantastic nurses and midwives.
