ACPAN are excited to welcome you all to Newcastle. The town drenched in rich historical culture, with everything from settlements and military, to mining and steel work. It is located two hours from Sydney and one hour from the Hunter Valley vineyards and Nelsons Bay.
Newcastle is a coastal town that has plenty of beaches to choose from; Nobbies and the lighthouse break wall, Mereweather, Dudley, Horseshoe, Dixon Park and Susan Gilmore, all of which have beautiful scenic walks. We are also home to one of the oldest man-made ocean pools, the Bogey hole and the Mereweather baths. Newcastle has recently added an ANZAC memorial walk to this coastline which is not only rich with history but is a beautiful stroll.
Fort Scrathley is one of our historical military bases that is open to the public, where you can wander around the tunnels and gun enhancements and learn all about Newcastle’s role in WWII, including when Newcastle was attacked by a Japanese submarine. We’re also home to a beautiful reserve, Blackbutt, where you can interact with a variety of flora and fauna and actively engage with the breathtaking wildlife exhibits.
We’re a sporting town which is proudly the home of the Knights and the Jets. There are plenty of award-winning restaurants and cafes to grab a bite, relax and have a drink. Live music is never too hard to find as we’re a town that loves a good time. With activities ranging from the taking the ferry to the Stockton sand dunes to wine tasting and brewery tours.
